JOB TITLE:  TITLE I SITE FAMILY SUPPORT COORDINATOR (Richard Kane Elementary School)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, or related field. Two to three years developing and evaluating programs and coordinating team efforts in a health, nonprofit or educational setting.  Experience working with service organizations desired. Good customer service/people skills are essential to a proper understanding in the community.  Creativity, resourcefulness, initiative and effective problem solving are important to making innovative approaches to foster positive school to home & home to school relationships. Employee must have mobility enough to travel to various locations in the community.   Employee must be able to walk for 4 hours.  Job requires occasional bending/stooping/ squatting/ crouching/kneeling, climbing, reaching above the shoulder and pushing/pulling.  Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to 50 pounds.  Job requires employee to use both hands for repetitive actions involving simple/firm grasping and fine manipulation.  Employee must possess hearing and speaking abilities to monitor equipment and communicate with employees, students, and parents.  The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to the listed qualifications.

 

CONTRACT: Days School in Session + 10 extra days

WORKING HOURS:  Flexible, 8 hrs per day

REPORTS TO:  Principal

EVALUATED BY:  Principal

SALARY GRADE: V

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Fosters ties between the school, the family, and community by conducting services such as parent and family education, the integration of community services, and/or direct intervention as needed.
  2. Identifies needs and opportunities for parents and families to engage and participate in the education of their children.
  3. Works with the building principal and counselor to develop, implement and evaluate intervention efforts.
  4. Conducts home visits when required to foster communication between school and home regarding attendance issues, truancy, medical issues, resources, or aide in parental involvement.
  5. Coordinates parent and family services with community-based organizations, institutions of higher education, private sector entities, or other entities with expertise in working with families by offering comprehensive community services.
  6. Conducts presentations and provides resources for school staff and community members on parental and family engagement.
  7. Plans, develops, and implements parent and family engagement activities for the Title I school.
  8. Follows Title I Parent and Family Engagement regulations and guidelines.
  9. Provides resources for students and their families regarding substance abuse, mental health issues, shelter, hygiene issues, utility assistance, food, health, etc.
  10. Collaborates with the District Title I Family Support Coordinator, District Homeless Education Coordinator, District Safe and Healthy Schools Coordinator, and District International Family Support Coordinator to ensure successful and appropriate  student and family interventions.
  11. Produces and maintains records as requested by Supervisors to ensure compliance with state and federal Title I regulations.
  12. Communicates with families about enrollment dates and procedures.
  13. Communicate summer program opportunities to parents.
  14. Coordinates community and parent volunteers to support site activities.
  15. Communicates community after school program opportunities to parents.  
  16. Provides parents with training and resources to prevent and treat head lice, scabies, bedbugs, etc…
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.
