QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Teaching Certificate
  • Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries Course
  • Strong organizational, communications and motivation skills
  • Head Coach or Collegiate playing experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the sport’s fundamentals, rules and strategies

 

CONTRACT: 181 Days

WORKING HOURS: As necessary

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

EVALUATED BY: Athletic Director

SUPERVISES/EVALUATES: Assistants and Lower Level Staff

EXPECTATIONS OF ALL COACHES:

  • Coaches are to remember that they are hired as teachers first and are expected to perform their classroom duties in the same manner in which they are expected to perform their coaching duties.
  • Coaches are expected to adhere to the Philosophies of the Bartlesville Athletic Department.
  • Coaches are responsible for upholding Federal, State, and local laws as well as the rules and regulations of the OSSAA and Bartlesville Public Schools as related to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
  • Coaches are responsible for upholding the rules and regulations of the OSSAA and the Bartlesville Public Schools as related to eligibility, attendance, and conduct.
  • Coaches are responsible for the safety of their athletes. Athletes should not be left unsupervised in the dressing facilities, practice facilities, and weight room.
  • Coaches, who at the end of their season are not moving to another sport, are responsible for the supervision of their athletes.
  • Coaches will attend staff meetings (school and athletic) when directed by the school principal or athletic director.
  • Coaches are expected to communicate effectively with the administration, media, parents, teachers, and athletes.
  • Coaches are expected to help with the physical examination and drug test which are administered by the district.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Equipment ordering, checkout and maintenance
  • Organization of practice
  • Continued effort towards self-improvement
  • Direction of assistants and/or lower level staff
  • Completion of reports and other athletic documents
  • Communicate with athletes, parents and community
  • Build and maintain satisfactory relationships with opponents
  • Cooperation and administration, officials and other sports programs
  • Proper conditioning of athletes for competition
  • Instruction of athletes in fundamental skills
  • Instills positive attitude in athletes
  • Motivates athletes to reach their potential
  • Encourages sportsmanship during competition
